My Approach to Psychotherapy

At the core of my approach to psychotherapy is my belief that each and every one of us is, above all else, a person worthy of love, respect, and empathy. In addition to that fundamental truth, we each possess history, patterns, strengths, and challenges that impact our functioning in relationships, our performance in work/school/community, and our abilities to reach our goals. We develop our patterns, strengths and challenges through a complex interaction of things we cannot change (i.e. – genetics, time, experiences/life events, personality) AND things we can change (i.e. – thought patterns, behavioral patterns, brain chemistry). Many of our patterns, strengths, and challenges are not set in stone and can be altered or optimized though making changes where we are able. Often times, problems arise when we lose sight of our ability to make changes or we find that making changes seems to too difficult or scary. No one/no family can make difficult changes without help and support. I hope to partner with you/your family in your journey towards making changes that will allow you/your family to shift problematic patterns, optimize strengths, and build tools to work with challenges.

The specific techniques and tools I utilize to help and support you/your family have strong support in clinical research literature. The technique(s) I chose is dependent on the individual client/client family because what works very well for one client may not work as well for another. I am trained and practiced in the following therapeutic approaches:
